Hi,
I see there is a gap in local walks with the Hampshire event, unless I've missed anything glaringly obvious, so I was wondering whether anyone wanted to go on a walk this Sunday. I haven't tried this but it looks clear enough on my Explorer map , with the entire route being on public footpaths, and it's basically up one side of the river and back the other side. We could meet in the car park at Coltishall station on the Bure Valley railway, unless someone with local knowledge can suggest anywhere better in the village (I don't know it at all).
The walk would take us along part of the Bure Valley path which appears to run alongside the railway (one of those steam railways isn't it?) then across to Buxton Mill and taking in a loop of the river and back to Coltishall along the riverside path on the other side, making a nice circular route.
No hills to speak of and 7-8 miles with the promise of a nice pub or whatever other delights Coltishall has to offer on a Sunday afternoon
Meet at 10.30 if anyone's coming

Thanks for turning up, everyone. Despite some rain and lack of planning other than looking at a map it was a nice walk...just sorry we couldn't quite make it a circular one due to very minor flooding. Good to see some familiar faces and to have met Andy, Suzanna and Tom

Hi Andy, see you there. Hopefully you can get from Wroxham to Coltishall, otherwise give me a ring. Email sent to today's walkers with my mobile number.
andys Posted - 18/07/2009 : 23:24:52
Hi Jon,
Sounds like a good walk.
Apologies for late notice, and not sure if you'll check this before but I'd like to make it along. I'm going to get the train to Wroxham so don't wait for me just in case there is a problem.
See you tomorrow,
Andy

Don't think I will make this one Jon as I have to reccy my walk in Hickling this weekend. Can you get a list of walk attendees again for me again mate.

Cheers

Paula Posted - 17/07/2009 : 10:02:58
Thanks Clive.

I'll email you to swap numbers, then I can let you know tomorrow if I still need a lift. See you on Sunday regardless.

(Any chance of a lift, Graham?)

tom.

Thanks for that, Nicky. Maybe we can decide whether to stay in Coltishall, perhaps another pub, or head over to Crostwick at the end. It's not a huge walk, so there should be time for either.
Nicky Posted - 16/07/2009 : 11:54:27
Hi just a quick tip to say the pubs in buxton are hideous....defo need to head to coltishall if eating!!!! or the white horse in crostwick is quite good for food and more reasonably priced....The rising sun has a nice view but can be pricey as it is a total tourist trap!!

Hi JW

Would like to come but i will be on Holiday, sunny Portugal

See you soon

Yes there are a couple of pubs in Buxton, about a 10 min diversion off the proposed route. I haven't visited them myself so I can't comment on them.
The carparks along the Bure Valley railway are free. In Coltishall, the Rising Sun is a nice place to eat beside the river and with plenty of parking. The Recruiting Sergeant also has a good size carpark and I've heard the food is good there, too.
I'll be there for the walk but I'm not sure if I can hang around for food because I have to be at work by 5pm

Suzanna.

Ok just to confirm we will meet at that car park by the river on the Wroxham Road near the White Lion Road junction - you can see it on link I've given if you change the mode from map to aerial or bird's eye photo, on the eastern side of the village.
Please try to get there for a 10.30am start and bring a snack but it would be nice to have a pub meal on our return to Coltishall.
I may be able to give a lift from Norwich but there is a possibility I might not be returning to Norwich afterwards so if anyone can offer Paula a lift that would make things easier. If no one comes up with a lift you can get a lift with me, Paula.

Hi Jon,

I'm pretty sure I can make this one.
It's a nice venue - good choice.

Hi Jon,

I'll come on your walk and thanks for putting it on. I hate 'no walk' weekends!

Can I catch a lift with someone going from Norwich? I live near the train station but can meet you wherever is convenient.

Thanks
Paula

Coryn Posted - 14/07/2009 : 19:15:06
All the pubs in Coltishall are very good. I would not recommend the pub in Buxton (anybody who came on my walk around there will tell you why!) Only sorry I can't join you.

There appears to be a good sized car park on the Wroxham Road on the east side of the village near the junction with White Lion Road and beside the river. It also appears to be next to or very close to two pubs - The Rising Sun and The Kings Head, so looks like a good bet.
Jonny Walker Posted - 14/07/2009 : 17:04:56
Will be good to see you again Graham.
Thanks for that, Suzanna. Is that car park free, do you know? There is another public car park shown on the map in Coltishall, but I don't know any details.
Is there a pub in Buxton? Still time to fine tune this...look forward to meeting you.
Jon

Count me in! I've walked this route many times. There is room for about five or six cars to park at Coltishall station. There are also big carparks at the pubs in the village, if going there afterwards. Otherwise, start the walk at the Bure Valley Station at Buxton, which has a lot more space to park.

Regards,
Suzanna.

Jon,

this seems a good idea. I'll join the walk.

thanks

Graham
