This would involve some cost, so just testing the waters to see if there would be any interest in a day out canoeing on the very lovely River Waveney around Bungay. Having canoed and kayaked all the way from west of Harleston to the sea I promise that the river around Bungay is one of the loveliest stretches and here you'll see kingfishers and other birds and the river here is fairly shallow and nice and clean so you can see fish swimming around. On hot days people even go for a swim.
The cost is £20 half day or £30 full day per canoe, 9am-6pm. As each canoe is for 2 people at least (some can carry 3, some even 4, as long as 2 are small adults or kids, same price) the cost isn't too bad at all, a tener at the most for a very nice day out. What they call half a day is only 3 hours and I think that's too short if you want to explore and have a leisurely picnic. The idea would be to take a picnic and if we could all bring stuff to share that would be even better.
This is the site: http://www.outneymeadow.co.uk/canoe-hire.htm
Of course, all safety equipment is included so no one will drown
Lots of places to stop and have that picnic, as the river loops around Bungay Common, which is mostly pasture land.
You don't have to be an expert to handle these things and even if you're not it can add to the fun
I was thinking possibly Sat 6 June (don't think we have any walks then) but if people are interested the date can be changed to suit.

I'd be up for this.
And that day is good, there are no walks or planned (or half planned) social events on that day!

We could sabotage it. Make it more interesting? :) |

Buoyancy aids are provided to everyone. This river is very safe - a slow current, only a few yards wide and in many stretches if you jumped in your hair would still be dry and there are no sluices or weirs where we'll be going. There are also no motorised boats, water skiers or any other hazards apart from the odd swan but they've always been ok too. It's a nice relaxing day out.

I'm definitely up for this. I did a bit of canoeing there a few years ago and it's so scenic and peaceful, especially while gliding along in a canoe.

Hi
Matt and I would definitely be interested in this, we did this ourselves with some friends a couple of years ago and it was lovely.

Hey,
I'm definitely interested in this trip - sounds like fun.
The 6th June is also a good day for me.
Looking forward to hearing more details.
Adele
P.S. I can't say that I'm the best canoeist in the world though - in the past I have been known to tack from bank to bank down the river in a canadian canoe! |

Well I guess I picked 6th June because it suited me, being my weekend off . 13th would involve about 4 hrs kip and leaving early, so I'd rather stick to 6th June but that doesn't stop other canoeing dates at other times, orgainised by me or anyone else. So, 6th June is still the plan |

Ok, if all the people who have posted here are coming (except Julie) I'll book for 12 today. If anyone else wants to come along the earlier they let me know the better the chances of there being a place left. I suggest we all try to double up in the canoes. No deposit required apparently. Then I'll post full details later. |

Hi Jonny
Matt and I are no longer able to make this, a pity as we were both looking forward to it. Hope you have a great time.

Hey, that's fine..plans change, and all that...I'll hold off booking this just yet and see if any more want to pull out or confirm their intention to come. It was posted quite a long time ago, to be fair. I'm getting my canoeing fix most weeks but will still be happy to organise this trip even if only 2 or 3 people want to come along. If not, no problemo. |

ok, it would be useful to have some confirmations or withdrawals from the following, as I will need numbers if I am going to book canoes: Paula, Alan, Adele, Graham, Jane, Ian? Any others who want to come please post asap as I will have to decide soon whether to still do this trip or not. |
