Nothing in the walking or social diary for then, so who's up for another paddle? Was thinking about a repeat of the last fun trip, to Geldeston Locks, because there's a nice pub at one end and I want to see someone else falling in, having missed Clive
There are details of this trip that I posted on the last thread, but if there's interest I'll re-post all the wheres and whens here.
It will cost £30 a canoe, and there are some 3 seaters available but you'd probably be best off in a 2 seater, which would be £15 for the day each. If there are odd numbers we would need one 3 seater.

Jonny would it be possible if me and Julian bring our own kayaks? I have the possibility of borrowing a couple off Michelle's dad if he is not using them that day. Should know this weekend if we can use them, if not we'll just hire one out. :)

Sure, I know for certain you'd be able to put them in at Bungay Staithe. Whether the campsite would let you do it there I have no idea. If it was just us I'd bring my kayak along as well, but if several people want to go canoes are a fun group thing. Sorry Jane, but this is the only weekend day I can do until mid October, because lucky me has 3 weeks in Portugal and Spain coming up and the day before that I'm on day 2 of an overnight sea kayaking trip.

Was looking at the website and this made me giggle!

It reads:
quote:
Canoes have the advantage of being totally silent, allowing you to get closer to wildlife

I'm not sure crashing into reed beads and falling in the water is my idea of silent or even possibly the best way to get "closer to wildlife"!

Unfortunately I can't make this trip either as am busy further down river in the St Peter's area that day.

Jon - sea kayaking? Sounds impressive.

Now I'm a trained canoeist, I can cope with anything. Liam, can we go sea kayaking one day? Or would we need a trained support and rescue team (Michelle) in case of incident?

Come along sometime. It's quite easy on these coasts because there's always a beach to pull onto if it gets too rough. This time we're doing Lowestoft-Southwold, camping on the beach and coming back the next day.
For anyone who hasn't been on either of the previous river canoe trips some photos of the last one are up on this site now, via the homepage.

Looks like 6 or 7 of us going on this trip. Julian and Liam can you let me know please if you want to hire a canoe or bring your kayaks? Will be good to see you again Bert. I hope to book this up by Tuesday.

Anyone who hasn't been on a previous trip can read full directions on how to get there on the previous trip thread, but in short it's at Bungay on the A143 roundabout next to Clays printers and is the north exit off the roundabout which goes to the golf club and camping site. The canoe hire is in the campsite and we will meet at 10am at the car park. Coming from Norwich turn right from the Poringland road at the A143 roundabout then at the next roundabout turn right and you're there.

As it'll be September bring waterproofs but also be prepared for sunshine. Maybe bring a drink and food if you like but I'll be having beer and pubfood at the Locks Inn.

It'll be an all day affair so we should be back by 4-5pm.

Looking forward to it!

£30 a canoe, so if 2 seaters (recommended) it's 15 each and if an odd number we'll have a 3 seater at £10 each.

Hi Jonny

Me and Julian will be bringing our own kayaks now as we are able to borrow them from Michelle's dad.

Cheers

ok, thanks for the update Liam.

i'll book 2 canoes then...

are you two going to try getting in at the campsite or will we see you at Bungay Staithe? Be more like 10.30 there.

To get there you go to the same roundabout where the campsite is and turn left (you can't go straight over Chicken Roundabout into Bungay anymore, there's a new one-way).

Keep on going straight until you hit the town centre and a mini roundabout

take the second exit down Trinity St and follow this around to the left and after it bends left around 100 yards on the left there'll be a left turn at a small green

turn left here and follow the road to the free car park at Bungay Staithe

We'll drop Nicky off at the campsite and go in the water at Bungay Staithe in case they start asking silly questions. We'll then meet you there. Cheers for the info on how to get there.

Er Liam, I'll need some time (probably about 6 hours, but let's say 15 minutes) to practice with this new equipment, as I'm not naturally very co-ordinated (I'm a bit thick and clumsy remember!) and will probably struggle to control the kayak.

I may see you the rest of you at the start point already soaking wet!

Don't worry we will have time waiting for the others for me to show you the basics, and you don't need two degrees to control the kayak so you will be OK.
