Norfolk Young Walkers Group
20th July 2008: Burnham Overy Staithe
A large turnout for a lovely walk in North Norfolk. Photo here
15th June 2008: Ludham
This 9 mile walk along tracks and country lanes was enjoyed by 9 walkers. While the sky threatened the sunshine managed to somehow shine on us all day (even though it apparently hailed so heavily in Attleborough it looked like snow!) Back at the cars, we all sat in the sun by the marina and ate icecreams - very chilled! Later in the afternoon Alan had a BBQ to celebrate his birthday on Tuesday. Although it rained while he cooked the pile of sausages, it stopped after we'd finished eating inside his cosy summerhouse. Photos here
24th May 2008: Riddlesworth
Amy, David, Emma, James and Jane had a warm and sunny Bank Holiday walk through forest and field in South Norfolk near Riddlesworth. We covered 17 miles in less than 7 hours and are now so glad we chose the Saturday to walk! Photo here
18th May 2008: Debenham
Another joint walk with IVC saw a record attendance enjoy a sunny day walking through some of Suffolk’s finest countryside
17th May 2008: Sheringham
Despite the threat of bad weather, we all enjoyed a pleasant walk around the Sheringham area, reminding those of us who had just got back from North Yorkshire that Norfolk has hills too ... just!
11th May 2008: Holt to Mannington
Four of us spent a glorious (if baking) day walking 18 miles around the quiet lanes and fields south of Holt in North Norfolk. Early on in the walk, we had a surprise traverse through rapeseed fields (pictured)...and an encounter with a procession of bubble cars enjoying the sunshine !
2nd - 5th May 2008: Yorkshire Weekend
11 Members of the Group enjoyed a great long weekend in North Yorkshire. On Saturday we all completed a long but pleasant 12 mile walk to the peak of Ingleborough and back. On Sunday the weather was horrible, but we all started out on a walk up Whernside. A combination of the weather and tiredness from the day before caused some members to miss out the climb to the peak, but five members made it to the peak. On Monday the weather was great again, and we all enjoyed a shorter but very steep climb to the peak of Pen-y-ghent before returning to Norfolk. (Click here for pictures . . . )
26th April 2008: Black Mountain Roundabout
A Welsh Adventure. 6 intrepid walkers failed to complete the 25 mile Roundabout - mainly due to Tom slowing everyone down with his ankle problems. However, I think we all enjoyed ourselves anyway! Photos here...
20th April 2008: Diss (joint walk with the Leg Stretchers Group)
A total of 28 members from the two groups turned out for this 16 mile walk. It was a great chance for the two groups to get together and many new contacts were made.
13th April 2008: Beighton
Four of us had a blissfully sunny spring walk in rolling countryside surrounding the Broads. The 12 miles took us from Beighton down to Cantley on the River Yare (plus alluring beet factory...see pic), then back up through Limpenhoe and Moulton St. Mary - with a welcome cream tea at the end ! Will run this walk again as part of next year's programme if others are keen !Click here for photos.

23rd March 2008: Blakeney
In a change to the advertised programme, this walk at Blakeney started off in heavy snow, fortunately we had Alan's fluorescent jacket to lead the way. 'Spotted Dick' and 'Carry On' innuendo prevailed in the end. Click here for photos.
16th March 2008: Chelmondiston
This joint walk with the Stour walking group took place in rather challenging weather and required two pub stops (for the warmth and shelter, you understand… Oh! and the premium strength cider). The interesting scenery along the river Orwell coupled with the friendly welcome from the Stour group, compensated for the rain. Click here for photos.

30th December 2007: Honingham
This walk was led by Paula with a little help from Alan. A wrong turn was taken near the beginning, adding an extra mile (just goes to prove the importance of doing a reccy beforehand!) After finding the correct route, the walk varied, crossing streams, fields and woodland. Lunchstop was in the entrance of a church in Mattishall and a welcome drink was enjoyed at the end in Ye Olde Buck Inn.Click here for some photos.
15th December 2007: Thetford Forest
It was a cold but sunny walk up to and through Lynford Arboretum, and included encounters with ducks, giant deer and quicksand!Click here for a photo of this event.
2nd December 2007: Gressenhall
Despite the predicted torrential rain for this walk, eight people enjoyed a pleasant walk without a drop of rain! The walk took us mainly along the country lanes around Gressenhall, but also included some farm tracks and woodland. The afternoon was enhanced when we spotted a few Jays, and even had a chance encounter with Father Christmas!

19th August 2007: Yare Valley Walk

4th August 2007: Baconsthorpe Castle, Holt
Eight people and two dogs made their way to the rather remote Baconsthorpe Castle. Following the pleasant walk and the welcome pub stop we had a quick tour of the Castle. The glorious sunny weather coupled with good company, made for a great day out. Click here for photos from this event.

We met at midday a Dereham Car Park and completed a short walk (not exactly following the intended route!) The event was attended by a number of new members to the group, some of who were new to walking, so the walk was kept to a short length. The walk ended in a member's garden for a BBQ.
30th June 2007: Pingo Trail, Thetford
Despite the bad weather predictions on this day, seven members turned out for this walk and were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable weather. Despite the frequent mosquito attacks, the walk was enjoyed by all! Click here for photos from this event.
19th May 2007: Walk from Oulton Broad to Beccles
The weather on this day was ideal for walking, and six members of the group met at Oulton Broad for the start of this walk. The walk was most enjoyable and gave the new members ample chance to get to know one another better. Hopefully some pictures from this walk will become available soon!
